WARSAW (AP) - Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany became the first non-Russians in 12 years to win the pairs title at the European figure skating championships Wednesday.
Savchenko and Szolkowy scored 199.39 points overall. Maria Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov of Russia were second with 179.61, while the Polish husband-and-wife team of Dorota and Mariusz Siudek were third with 170.91. The last time a pair not representing Russia won a European title was in 1995 when Mandy Woetzel and Ingo Steuer of Germany took gold.
